Grandparents Raising Grandchildren: A Support Group

By on September 16, 2015 in Reoccurring Events with 0 Comments

Many grandparents today find themselves with the responsibility of raising their grandchildren, often due to complicated family circumstances beyond their control.  The Neighborhood Support Coalition of Cape Cod and the Islands has partnered with Falmouth Human Services to offer a support group to assist grandparents in adjusting to this unexpected change in their lives.  The group is facilitated by Lee Burwell, LMHC, a family therapist on the staff of Falmouth Human Services.  The topics explored together will be in response to the needs of the participants.

Please join us on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.  There is no cost for this group or for the food and child care.  We will be meeting at the East Falmouth School, beginning at 5:30pm with a meal together in the cafeteria before the adults move to the Conference Room for the discussion group.  The children will then be supervised and entertained in the library by a competent staff of child care providers.

Benefits of this program:

  • Access to legal, logistical, and therapeutic support services
  • Opportunities to problem-solve with other grandparents facing similar challenges
  • An evening of respite from meal preparation
  • Opportunities for you and your grandchildren to socialize with other grandparent/grandchild families and thus to normalize your experiences

Please register for this group by calling Beverly Costa-Ciavola at 508-771-4336

Limited to 12 adult participants, so please register as soon as possible.
