If someone is out of work or has had a reduction in hours for any reason related to COVID-19, they should apply for unemployment compensation (unless they are getting paid sick leave from their employer).

Claimants are eligible in any of these situations:

  • The business has shut down
  • Their hours have been reduced significantly
  • They have been told to stay home
  • They must stay out to care for a child or other family member

If people can’t use UI Online because of language, special needs, disability, etc., there is a form to set up a callback from the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance: https://www.mass.gov/forms/covid-19-department-of-unemployment-assistance-contact-request

It is highly recommended that these contacts with the DUA be made online using the links provided. Only as a last resort the public may call the DUA, as follows:

When calling the TeleClaim Center at (877) 626-6800, please follow the call schedule below:

  • If the last digit of your Social Security Number is: 0,1 call on Mondays
  • If the last digit of your Social Security Number is: 2,3 call on Tuesdays
  • If the last digit of your Social Security Number is: 4,5,6 call on Wednesdays
  • If the last digit of your Social Security Number is: 7,8,9 call on Thursdays
  • Any last digit: call on Fridays
